Too True

"I think we ought to read only the kind of books that wound and stab us... We need the books that affect us like a disaster, that grieve us deeply, like the death of someone we loved more than ourselves, like being banished into forests far from everyone, like a suicide. A book must be the axe for the frozen sea inside us."

Franz Kafka, in a private letter, January 1904

hi, josh - I haven't heard from you since 2008, but I've read some your stuff so I thought it was time to say hello - I'm not even sure you're blogging anymore as I see the date on this entry of yours is 2009 - nevertheless, you might find this comment some day and say hey - I was re-reading your thoughts about your church's new stained glass window (new in 2007/2008 anyway) - I wonder what's up with you and your congregation these days? In any case, a strong and helpful quote from Kafka - thank you for bringing it to our attention.
